Revised plans submitted for £250m Manchester waterpark and resort
Urban wellbeing group Therme has submitted proposals for a £250m waterpark and wellbeing resort in Manchester to local authorities, following a number of revisions.
The most noticeable change is the removal of the glass roof, as the design shifts from a single building with different zones in favour of a more ‘pavilion’ style philosophy.
The original proposals were submitted three years ago but have since been redesigned by Therme’s own architecture team along with design studios Fletcher Priest and GROSS.MAX.
If opened, visitors will be able to use over 25 pools and 35 waterslides at the Trafford resort, which would sit on the site of the now-demolished EventCity.
Proposed changes include the construction of a 100,000 sq ft urban wellbeing garden, a landscaped boulevard, and improved connections to the Bridgewater Canal and Manchester City Centre.
The roof of the multi-storey car park, which was part of the original proposals, could now be used as a customer terrace.
Therme is also looking to improved the project’s sustainability credentials, with a reduction in the amount of steel being used and a commitment to renewable energy sources.
The changes to the proposals follow a public consultation period, with Therme now waiting for the green light from Trafford Council. If approved, construction could begin later this year.
When the original plans were submitted, Therme was aiming for an opening in 2023.
