Holiday park tycoon ‘Bob the Builder’ calls in administrators

Two businesses owned by holiday park tycoon Robert Bull, known as ‘Bob the Builder’, have filed notices to appoint administrators.

The billionaire bungalow tycoon, who was named as one of Britain’s wealthiest individuals earlier this year, has called in administrators for his caravan parks in Kent and Portsmouth, The Telegraph has reported.

Legal documents show that Golden Leas Holiday Park and Hayling Island Holiday Park filed notices to appoint advisers last week.

However, Bull has insisted that it was “business as usual” for his companies.

‘Bob the Builder’ made his wealth through Britain’s largest bungalow provider RoyaleLife, converting caravan parks into single-storey residential dwellings. He was listed on The Sunday Times Rich List with a net worth of nearly £2bn.

His companies have previously faced financial troubles, including a number of winding-up petitions against his leisure estates business. In 2016, his caravan business was declared bankrupt, owing debts of £3.5m.

Robert Bull said: “Like many companies we had a challenging time emerging from the Pandemic and, as an entity, we became subject to winding up orders based on false claims and unfounded information. These have either been dismissed or are the subject of legal action.”

“More than 200+ legal entities comprise the Royale Group and these remain unaffected. I therefore want to reassure our funders, suppliers, residents, and employees that it is very much business as usual”, he added.
