Liverpool ONE picks up two national awards
Liverpool ONE shopping centre is celebrating a double award win after being recognised for its commitment to the environment as well as the site’s heritage.
Chavasse Park, which is located in the heart of the scheme, has retained its Green Flag Status for the 12th year in a row.
The government-backed accolade, awarded by Keep Britain Tidy, is internationally recognised and has been dubbed “the Oscars of parks”.
The five-acre park plays host to a number of seasonal events, and this year will become one of the official Team GB and ParalympicsGB fan zones during the Olympics.
Liverpool ONE has also been awarded the Green Site Heritage Accreditation for the first time. The award, supported by Historic England, recognises the scheme’s commitment to enhancing and spotlighting its heritage for visitors to enjoy.
Donna Howitt, place strategy director at Liverpool ONE, said: “Bringing communities together is at the core what we do at Liverpool ONE, we take pride in bringing our green spaces and heritage to play centre stage whether that’s through hosting sporting activities, music and entertainment, or simply taking some time out together as a family or group of friends.
“Chavasse Park is a unique green space in the middle of a vibrant, bustling city centre to do all of these things, and we’re incredibly proud to be recognised with a Green Flag for the 12th year running.
“To be awarded the Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the first time is also a huge achievement for us, as we’re incredibly committed to paying tribute to our rich history, through initiatives such as our Heritage Trail, our work in Memorial Garden and the partnership with National Museums Liverpool with The Old Dock Tour.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager, Paul Todd MBE, added: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Liverpool ONE on achieving a Green Flag Award.
“Chavasse Park is a vital green space for communities in Liverpool to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.
“We know that staff work tirelessly to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award, everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.
“It is important that our free to use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected.”
This follows the news that Liverpool ONE recently became the UK’s first retail destination to introduce a new sustainability facility, with the installation of a Mobile Segregation Unit.
