Wingstop appoints head of acquisitions to support UK growth

20th September 2024 | Jack Oliver

Wingstop UK has announced the appointment of Adrian Saunders as its new head of acquisitions.

Playing an integral part in the American fried chicken brand’s expansion drive, Saunders brings a wealth of experience to the role, having led acquisition strategies for a number of top restaurant brands.

He has previously led the acquisition of around 90 restaurants for The Restaurant Group, including locations for the Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito brands.

Saunders also acquired 45 prime high street and shopping centre locations for Wagamama, including its first site in New York City.

In addition, he was also involved in restructuring Byron Hamburgers in 2018 through a company voluntary arrangement, enabling the business to be sold and restructured.

Wingstop is on track to open 18 locations in 2024, with a secured pipeline for 2025, and plans to exceed this figure next year.

Adrian Saunders said: “I am excited to join Wingstop UK at such a pivotal time in the brand’s journey. The momentum Wingstop has built across the UK is phenomenal, and I look forward to applying my experience in driving growth and securing prime locations to take the brand to the next level.”

Chris Sherriff, CEO of Wingstop UK, added: “Adrian’s impressive track record in the restaurant sector and his strategic insight make him the perfect addition to our team. We’re on a strong growth trajectory, with 18 new locations set to open this year and a very healthy pipeline already in place for 2025. Adrian’s expertise will be invaluable as we look to roll out even more sites across the UK.”

Wingstop’s expansion strategy will continue to be supported by Mark Segal of Brasier Freeth, who has been exclusively retained by the brand since 2020. He has played a role in sourcing and acquiring every Wingstop UK site over the past four years, and his contributions will remain integral as Wingstop pursues further sites in high-footfall locations, including high streets, shopping centres, and retail parks.
