Travelodge acquires former Ibis hotel at Bromley shopping centre
Travelodge has reached an agreement to acquire the former Ibis hotel at The Bromley Mall in South East London.
The budget hotel brand – which operates over 600 hotels across the UK, ROI, and Spain – have acquired the building on a 25-year lease.
Travelodge will now begin the process of refitting the 59-room hotel this month, with the aim of opening for business by Easter.
The building – which fronts on to Elmfield Road – was formerly known as Berkeley House and in later years was the headquarters of Bromley tech company Splash Damage before being extended and converted into an hotel during the late 2010’s. The property became vacant in early 2024 after Ibis went out of business.
Travelodge currently operates 82 hotels across the London Boroughs and is continuing to expand across the capital. The operator recently acquired an office building in St Paul’s to convert into a 95-room hotel and has also recently exchanged contracts for a new 82-room hotel in Upminster. A further three Travelodge hotels are also under construction in London at Beckenham, Chiswick and Stratford.
Steve Bennett, chief property and development officer at Travelodge, said: “Travelodge is delighted to continue the expansion of our network of hotels throughout London. We have entered into a 25-year lease to operate this new hotel in Bromley, which we are certain will be a fantastic addition to our portfolio.”
Mike Lewis, partner at Michael Rogers, which acted for The Bromley Mall, added: “We were delighted to represent Bromley Mall Limited in this transaction which follows other recent successful lettings of retail units in the mall to Gopuff and Rhino Boulder. Our clients are in the process of finalising plans for a comprehensive face-lift of Bromley Mall which I am confident will attract considerable interest once the works have been completed”.
