Japanese restaurant picks Brighton for first location outside of London

Japanese restaurant group Taro is set to open its ninth location and its first outside of London in Brighton.
The operator will open its new location in September, after signing a 20-year lease for a 1,280 sq ft unit at 60 Ship Street.
The space includes a dining area and bar on the ground floor, leading to another dining area to the rear alongside the kitchen.
Ship Street connects North Street to Brighton’s Lanes and is one of the highest footfall areas in the city. Nearby restaurants and retailers include The Ivy Asia, Peggs and Sons, Lucy and Yak, Browns, and Trading Post Coffee.
Mr Taro, founder of Taro, said: “We are incredibly proud to be opening Taro Brighton – our first major venture outside of London. Brighton is a city full of energy, creativity and diversity, with a rich sense of history and community spirit – it felt like the perfect home for Taro’s next chapter.”
Alex Denning of SHW, which acted for the landlord, said: “We’re delighted to have secured Taro at 60 Ship Street on behalf of our private client. Their arrival is a fantastic addition to Brighton’s vibrant food scene and we’re proud to have been a part of this exciting next step in their expansion.”
