Ikea to open smaller format store in Chester

Ikea is set to open a new smaller format store in Chester in October.
Located at Greyhound Retail Park, the new location will be Ikea’s third small format store to open, following launches in Harlow and Norwich earlier this year.
The new format has been developed to be significantly faster and more cost-effective to open than traditional Ikea stores. Located in retail parks, the stores utilise the units’ existing structure and are completed at pace.
The opening of Ikea Chester forms part of the furniture retailer’s expansion strategy, as it looks to open in more locations closer to where the people live, work, and socialise, targeting locations such as suburbs, towns, and smaller cities.
Andy MacGregor, unit manager for Ikea Chester, said: “We can’t wait to open our new home in Chester. While a small store, customers can still expect the Ikea experience they know and love, including home furnishing inspiration, our signature food, and expert planning services – and, of course, a warm welcome when we open our doors next month.”
Ikea Chester is the latest step in the retailer’s wider UK expansion plan in 2025, which will see the brand open a ‘Plan and Order Point’ in Dundee in the coming months. This follows the recent opening of Plan and Order Points in Hull and York, small stores in Harlow and Norwich, and a city store in Brighton and on London’s Oxford Street.
