WHSmith staff hit by cyber attack
Current and former employees at WHSmith have their data at risk of being exposed after the retailer’s network was the target of a cyber security incident.
WHSmith said the attack had resulted in “illegal access to some company data”, and added that they had launched an immediate investigation into the incident.
“WHSmith takes the issue of cyber security extremely seriously and investigations into the incident are ongoing. We are notifying all affected colleagues and have put measures in place to support them”, the retailer said in a statement.
It added that trading has been unaffected.
It is unclear how many members of staff have been affected, however the retailer currently employs around 10,000 people across the UK.
In January, JD Sports were the target of a cyber-attack which saw the data of more than 10 million of its customers leaked.
The Information Commissioner’s Office, who investigate data breaches, said they are aware of the incident.
