B&Q to enter convenience store market

12th December 2022 | Jack Oliver

DIY retailer B&Q plans to open dozens of convenience stores, according to The Telegraph.

It aims to open the stores in urban locations with two set to launch on London in 2023.

If the rollout is successful, B&Q aims to open in around 50 potential areas.

Information about the new store format is currently limited, however B&Q chief executive Graham Bell referred to the success of Sainsbury’s Local and Tesco Express.

Asda is another retailer who has launched their own convenience stores, having opened their second Asda Express last week in Tottenham Hale, as it aims to open 300 stores by 2026.

The new B&Q stores will stock generic DIY merchandise and feature services for kitchen refits. Customers will also be able to place orders for larger or more niche products with an option for next-day delivery.
