17th July 2023 | Jack Oliver

The Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton is set to be partially demolished following a huge fire which broke out on Saturday evening.

George O’Reilly of the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service told BBC Radio Sussex that part of the building will be demolished so that the fire could be extinguished.

Around 100 people were evacuated from the local area and guests were given alternative means of accommodation.

Britannia Hotels purchased the 180-bedroom hotel in 1997.

The Royal Albion Hotel, part of which is Grade-II listed, was built in 1826 and previously suffered another fire in November 1998.
