British Land appoints new CEO

British Land has appointed Joanne McNamara as chief executive officer.

McNamara is currently executive vice president of Europe at Oxford Properties, a global real estate investor, developer, and manager wholly-owned by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS), one of Canada’s largest pension funds.

She has over 20 years’ of experience in the real estate sector, having joined Oxford Properties in 2010 as one of the group’s first team members in London. Over those 16 years, McNamara has overseen a number of the firm’s most significant investment and development transactions, and also helped build Oxford Properties’ 70-plus European team.

Prior to joining Oxford Properties, McNamara held roles at Hammerson and DTZ.

She has a maximum notice period of 6 months and is expected to join the business by the end of November at the latest, succeeding Simon Carter who will step down after five years in the role.
