Go-ahead given for Southwark mixed-use development

Landsec has been given the green light for the next phase of its green office development in Southwark, which will also deliver open public and retail spaces.

The Red Lion Court development on the River Thames will see the construction of 230,000 sq ft of mixed-use space. The development would see access to outdoor space on every floor, as well as a roof terrace and views of the City over the river.

The project is designed to be net-zero in both construction and operation, in line with Landsec’s ongoing sustainability strategy.

Through the creation of a park, public garden, and green roofs, as well as fully electric operation and the repurposing of rainwater for future use, Landsec is targeting WELL Core Platinum rating and BREEAM ‘Outstanding’.

Landsec says over 45% of the development will be publicly accessible, with a path along the Thames sitting alongside flexible retail space, offices, a bike repair centre, and a wellness centre.

Oliver Knight, head of workplace at Landsec, said: “Red Lion Court delivers a landmark office with restaurants, bars and cultural institutions like the Tate Modern on its doorstep. The space embraces its prominent waterfront position to provide a new workspace focused on wellness, flexibility and environmental responsibility.”
