Go-karting track leads raft of lettings at Star City

An indoor go-karting track is amongst four tenants which have signed new leases at Quadrant’s Star City complex in Birmingham.

Signing for a 39,000 sq ft space on a 20-year lease, Capital Karts will open an 800-metre long track in early 2024. The indoor go-karting track is set to be the longest and fastest in the Midlands.

Mexican-inspired restaurant Taco Bell will also be opening at the scheme, taking a 2,700 sq ft unit on a 10-year lease and marking its first venture into central Birmingham.

Indian street food brand Chaiiwala has taken a 10-year lease on one of Star City’s last remaining kiosks totalling 386 sq ft, replacing Subway which has moved to a larger unit.

Existing tenant Sheres Khan’s is set to upsize its current 6,612 sq ft premises, with the Indian and Pakistani restaurant merging an additional unit to create a 14,384 sq ft site, which it is taking on a 15-year lease.

Since Quadrant’s 2016 takeover on behalf of a US-based asset manager, Star City has been rebranded, introduced a new management team, and seen a number of key areas repurposed. The scheme’s anchor tenants, Vue and Tenpin, have also undergone re-gears.

John Maddison, partner at Quadrant, said: “Our aim with Star City was to create a truly unique entertainment and leisure complex for the Midlands. Adding the region’s longest and fastest indoor karting track and Birmingham’s first Taco Bell continues this ambition, and Shere Khan’s continued and extended lease is a great reflection of the site’s strong trading performance. These latest signings are a great addition to the mix of attractions that keep people coming back here time and time again.”

Bruce Gillingham Pollard advised Capital Karts.

In April, it was reported that Quadrant had placed the complex up for sale for £65m.
