JD Sports to fill former BHS store in Stockport
JD Sports is set to open the doors to a new store in Stockport this week, taking part of a former BHS store.
Opening on Thursday 3rd October, The sports fashion retailer will occupy 13,000 sq ft of the former department store building within Merseyway Shopping Centre.
The store will replace the retailer’s existing two locations within Stockport town centre and offer a range of brands including Nike, Adidas, The North Face, Under Armour, Berghaus, Jordan, and Puma.
JD Sports’ arrival follows the recent opening of a 9,000 sq ft Poundland store within the same former BHS building, which has been refurbished into a prime retail space.
Councillor Colin MacAlister, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see the transformation of the old BHS building with the opening of JD and the recent opening of Poundland. This is a big step forward in our long-term plans for Merseyway, showing how we’re rethinking the use of these spaces to bring new life into the town centre. With many department stores closing nationally, it’s about more than just retail now – we’re thinking outside the box to create places that inspire creativity and innovation.”

Retail consultancy Barker Proudlove supported Stockport Council on the JD Sports and Poundland lettings.
