Family-owned building consultancy and project management company Knowles & Co. is marking its 35th year in business with a string of project completions in the north east of England.

The firm – which has offices in Newcastle and Manchester – has worked on high-profile projects with the likes of Harrods Beauty, JD Sports, The Inn Collection’s ‘The Hog’s Head Inn’, and the new NHS Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) at Metrocentre in Gateshead.

This comes as the group celebrates the one-year anniversary of the completion of the 15,000 sq ft extension of Primark at Metrocentre. Knowles & Co. was appointed to provide project management and contract administration services on the project, which ran between June 2023 and January 2024 and saw the retailer expand to over 100,000 sq ft of retail space.

After completion, alongside Zara’s recent expansion, a number of retail instructions followed including the sub-divisions of two vacant units to bring four new Tenants to Metrocentre, as well as the provision of the new NHS CDC.

Andrew Knowles, director at Knowles & Co., said: “The North East is a hub of opportunity, with substantial investment in the field and a number of high profile projects set to descend on the region. We were incredibly honoured to be entrusted with the project management on behalf of the Landlord for the NHS Community Diagnostics Centre. This is a significant project that will have a profound impact on the local community and marks a major milestone in enhancing healthcare services and accessibility in the north east region.

“We have formed a very strong relationship with the Metrocentre and it’s great to see this project come to fruition, as it highlights the continuing need for diversification of retail to provide a variety of differing building uses within an ever-changing retail environment.”
