London Square gets green light for Wimbledon Bridge House mixed-use conversion

Homebuilder London Square has secured planning permission from the London Borough of Merton to transform Wimbledon Bridge House into a mixed-use development.

The vacant office building, constructed in 1989, was acquired by London Square earlier this year. It stands in the heart of the town centre opposite Wimbledon train station and close to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, home of the Wimbledon Championships.

London Square will now move ahead with plans to extend and reconfigure the building into a mixed-use scheme delivering 123 new homes alongside commercial space and improvements at street level.

The new apartments will be supplemented by circa 27,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace, supporting local employment and retail opportunities.

Subject to approval from the Building Safety Regulator, London Square expects to complete the scheme in 2028.

Adam Lawrence, chief executive officer of London Square, said: “The conversion of Wimbledon Bridge House is an exciting opportunity to create a stunning scheme which will contribute to the future of this popular town centre. Sitting right opposite Wimbledon Train Station, our development will enhance the townscape while providing new homes, employment opportunities and amenities for local residents and visitors.”
