Matalan appoints Nigel Oddy as interim CEO

Nigel Oddy has been appointed the interim CEO of Matalan, replacing outgoing founder and chair John Hargreaves.

He will begin working for the company on an interim basis on October 3, 2022. Oddy has extensive experience in top leadership positions in the retail industry, most recently as the CEO of New Look.

Oddy joined New Look in 2019 and, while successfully managed the comapny through the COVID-19 epidemic. During his three year employment he also oversaw the execution of the brand’s omnichannel strategy and contributed to expanding its appeal throughout the mid-market fashion industry.

Previous experience includes his time as CEO of The Range from April 2017 to April 2019, where he achieved record sales and increased profitability.

Prior to 2017, he held many additional C-Suite positions at House of Fraser, Furnitureland, and Blacks Leisure. He also held a variety of senior roles at Marks & Spencer in the departments of buying, merchandising, and sourcing, giving him a comprehensive knowledge of the retail sector.
