Merry Hill completes letting of former Debenhams after signing anchor leisure operator

9th July 2025 | Jack Oliver

The former Debenhams department store at Merry Hill shopping centre in the West Midlands has been fully let after the signing of Funstation as its anchor leisure operator.

The 23,700 sq ft venue – called ‘Carnival Golf & Games’ – will offer multiple indoor golf courses alongside immersive video, virtual reality games, and escape rooms.

Funstation becomes the third operator to take space at the former Debenhams store at Merry Hill, joining retailer Harvey Norman and fitness operator XF Gym. The entertainment operator also joins the destination’s line-up of leisure-focused brands, including ODEON and Hollywood Bowl.

Alistair Winning, asset manager at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, said: “The signing of Funstation is the final chapter in our extensive regeneration strategy following the closure of Debenhams, adding a third unique operator to the 120,000 sq ft space. Funstation’s commitment is representative of the transformation Merry Hill has undergone recently and continues to drive ahead with in its 40th year, and is a direct response to evolved consumer desire for increased experiential leisure.”

The signing of Funstation follows the recent news that M&S is set to bring its latest store concept to Merry Hill.

JLL, Time Retail Partners, and Font Real Estate represent Merry Hill.
