New Arbroath retail park welcomes Home Bargains
Home Bargains has received planning permission to anchor the new Arbroath retail park development.
The new plan proposes a 10,000 sq. ft garden centre, over 40,000 sq. ft of retail space, 400 parking spaces and 13 EV charging points, anchored by a 30,000 sq. ft Home Bargains.
Parent company TJ Morris spoke before Angus Council with plans for the 3.3-hectare site at Elliot Industrial Estate.
It is the second retail park proposal for the former factory site. The previous scheme was approved in 2019 but was not progressed.
Planners insisted councillors should give the green light, despite the development contradicting the local development plan.
Chief planning officer Jill Paterson said: “The council has previously determined that large-scale retail development at this location represents a significant departure from development plan policy.”
“However, the council has also previously determined that large-scale retail development at this location is acceptable as it would improve the retail offer in Arbroath and would deliver significant economic benefit.”
