Sainsbury’s Local sales hit £3bn
Sales in Sainsbury’s convenience division have reached £3bn for the first time.
Sainsbury’s Local, which operates over 800 UK stores, reported year-on-year growth of 10% in the financial year to date, up 7% against pre-Pandemic levels.
Figures released by the grocer show an increase of over 45 million people visiting Sainsbury’s Local stores in the last year, suggesting a return to workplaces for many is driving up footfall in urban areas.
Sainsbury’s has opened 12 convenience stores within the last year says it plans to open a further 20 in the next 12 months.
Clo Moriarty, Sainsbury’s retail and digital director, said: “We know how much customers value being able to shop when and how they want, particularly in the post-pandemic world. Convenience is a growing part of our business and seeing our convenience stores reach today’s £3 billion sales milestone is a huge achievement and testament to how we are delivering what customers want.”
