The Range owner to open three new format stores following Homebase acquisition
The owner of The Range and Wilko has unveiled plans to open three new ‘superstores’ at three units it previously acquired from Homebase.
CDS Superstores – which acquired the Homebase brand and up to 70 of its stores at the end of last year – announced that it would be rolling out its new concept in Newton Abbot, Felixstowe, and Blyth on 24th January.
This follows the group’s announcement that it would be opening new concept stores at units currently occupied by Homebase in Glasgow, Bournemouth, and Birmingham on 17th January.
The new concept stores will look to combine The Range’s product variety with the home improvement offering of Homebase and feature ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’.
CDS Superstores is planning to open 10 of the new concept stores per month, with the aim of converting up to 70 Homebase locations to its new format during 2025.
Alex Simpkin, group chief executive at CDS, said: “We’re fully committed to retaining the best of Homebase’s heritage while introducing the broader product range and value that customers expect from us as The Range.
“While those Homebase stores acquired by CDS will continue to trade as they are during the transition period, we’re focused on ensuring a seamless transfer of these locations into our new store format, with six launches now confirmed for January 2025 already.”
This comes as B&Q announces that it has reached an agreement to acquire five Homebase stores, which it will convert to its own brand.
