Villa Park £100m expansion plans approved

Aston Villa’s plans to create a multi-purpose entertainment and community space have been approved by councillors.

Birmingham City Council gave the go-ahead for the £100m project last week, which will also see an expansion of Villa Park’s North Stand.

The revised application, submitted in July, include the addition of a club shop to the North East corner of the stadium, and a new sports bar entrance joining the new North Stand to the Trinity Road Stand.

The proposals will see the multi-purpose venue, called Villa Live, constructed within a refurbished warehouse near the stadium.

Under the revised plans, the main focus will be on the construction of the North Stand, with the Villa Live scheme to be finalised at a later date.

In the meantime, the Stumps Academy Building will be repurposed to create a fan zone, food and drink space, and events venue.

Under proposals initially agreed in December of last year, the stadium’s capacity will be expanded to over 50,000.

Villa Park looks likely to host games during Euro 2028, as only a joint UK and Ireland hosting bid remains.
