Chicken restaurant chain Wingstop is exploring a sale of its UK operations.

The company – which first opened in the UK in 2018 – has hired Goldman Sachs to find new owners, Sky News has reported.

City sources told Sky News that the sale had been initiated in response to unsolicited expressions of interest from potential buyers.

Goldman Sachs has reportedly been issuing information about Wingstop to potential buyers in recent weeks.

Wingstop opened its first site in the UK in Cambridge Circus and is preparing to open its 50th restaurant, as the chain targets a total of 57 sites by the end of the year.

The company reportedly believes it could open between 400 and 500 sites in Britain.

The chain’s US-headquartered business is listed in New York and has a market capitalisation of around $11bn (£8.6bn). The American company also owns 20% of the UK operation, having acquired it in 2021.
