Plans submitted for mixed-use transformation of Sheffield brewery

Plans have been submitted to Sheffield City Council that would see the transformation of a derelict brewery into a mixed-use development.

Cannon Brewery sits on a 4.5-acre site and has remained empty since 1999. However proposals delivered by Capital&Centric could see the delivery of retail units, public space, and new homes.

The plans detail the development of over 500 apartments, as well as and space for independent shops, delis, and café bars.

A park would also be developed, as well as a public square with space for pop-up events, performances, and installations.

Capital&Centric say the project is seen as an opportunity to grow Sheffield’s city centre via sustainable means, and presents the chance to bring new residents into the area and create new homes without displacing existing businesses.

The intended proposals are set to be delivered in phases, with the materials and designs to take inspiration from the surrounding industrial warehouses.

Richard Spackman, development director at Capital&Centric, said: “We want the end goal to be that Cannon Brewery becomes Sheffield’s best address […] a city centre district where people not only want to live, but spend their weekends, hang out with mates or locate their start-up business.”
