The Jockey Club places bets on retail development opportunities
The Jockey Club is seeking development partners to introduce new asset classes as it looks to diversify the offering at its racecourses.
The group said it has identified various development opportunities on surplus land, including the potential for complementary drive-through restaurants and retail developments at six of its 15 racecourses.
George Stratton and James Potter of Park Place Retail have been appointed to find suitable partners for the six identified sites, which range in size between 0.5 and 3 acres.
The six sites are:
- Nottingham Racecourse
- Cheltenham Racecourse
- Exeter Racecourse
- Huntingdon Racecourse
- Kempton Park Racecourse, Sunbury-on-Thames
- Newmarket Racecourse, Suffolk
Speaking on LinkedIn, Stuart Mitchell, managing director of group property at The Jockey Club, said racecourses are an obvious location to meet modern retail, leisure, and drive-through demands.
He added: “Our research and data with CACI tells us there is a pent up demand for these uses in our catchments, and we believe our racecourses make excellent locations for other alternative uses, for consumers to live, work and play, working hand in hand in and around our iconic and beautiful racecourses.”
