Everyman to open at £500m Elephant & Castle development
Get Living has announced that Cinema chain Everyman is set to open one of its largest venues in London at The Elephant, a £500m town centre development in Elephant & Castle.
The five-screen cinema, which will be Everyman’s 17th venue in the capital, will show a range of films while also offering a programme of events, including Q&As, screenings, live broadcast theatre, opera and ballet, and members’ events.
Everyman becomes the latest in a raft of new names that have signed up at The Elephant. This includes Pret A Manger and Bird & Blend, the speciality tea brand. In addition, Superdrug will bring its health and beauty offer to the town centre.
The signing becomes the next chapter in the area’s storied history involving British film and cinema. Named after a coaching inn recorded in 1765, Elephant & Castle was known as the ‘Piccadilly Circus of south London’ by the early 20th century, a bustling shopping and entertainment district home to seven cinemas including the vast 3,000-seat Trocadero.
Launching in late 2026, The Elephant will be among the largest new retail-led town centre openings in Zone 1 in recent years. The scheme will welcome a mix of national brands and independents, including M&S, Blank Street, Jungle Berry, and local hotspot DistriAndina.
Aidan Malia, senior director of The Elephant, said: “The addition of Everyman further strengthens the already compelling line-up of leisure, food & drink, and retail operators at The Elephant, and marks another major milestone for Elephant & Castle’s new town centre. We are also delighted to welcome Pret A Manger, Bird & Blend and Superdrug. This next wave of brands is a strong vote of confidence in south London’s retail and leisure future, and in our long-term vision for The Elephant.”
Farah Golant, CEO of Everyman, added:“Opening at The Elephant is a hugely exciting moment for Everyman. Elephant & Castle is a vibrant, creative community, and we can’t wait to welcome locals and visitors to experience the magic of the big screen alongside the warm, first-class hospitality that defines Everyman.”
