Landsec has been given the go-ahead from Portsmouth City Council for the second phase of its £45m investment into Gunwharf Quays.

The proposals for the second phase – which were submitted late last year – focus on Marlborough Square, one of the scheme’s main points of arrival.

The plans include improvements to the entrance tunnel used by visitors arriving via Portsmouth Harbour train station or from the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Landsec is also looking to improve the area’s aesthetics, shopfronts, public realm, and landscaping, whilst adding more seating and facilities to improve dwell time.

Landsec had already submitted an application detailing improvement works for Gunwharf Quays’ The Avenues, which has since been approved.

Work is expected to commence this winter.

Yvonne Clay, centre director at Gunwharf Quays, said: “This planning consent marks a significant step in our long-term investment in Gunwharf Quays.

“We’re focused on making improvements to every moment our guests spend with us and ensuring we create the perfect environment for our retailers to continue to flourish.

“Along with our ongoing sustainability actions and strengthened local partnerships, this planning consent enables us to unlock even more value for Portsmouth.”
