M&S to take old Debenhams unit at Liverpool ONE

20th December 2022 | Jack Oliver

Grosvenor has announced the signing of Marks and Spencer to Liverpool ONE, anchoring South John Street in two floors of the former Debenhams unit.

The 100,000 sq ft store is set to open in mid-2023 and will see the retailer relocate from Church Street in Liverpool.

M&S’s Liverpool ONE investment is part of the retailer’s national store rotation programme, as it says it is aiming to create an M&S store estate fit for the future with high quality space across the UK.

The new M&S will feature a food hall, clothing, and home departments, as well as a café, dedicated coffee-to-go section, in-store bakery, food-to-go aisle, and a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.

This news sees the remainder of the former Debenhams unit now in use, following the announcement that Gravity Active Entertainment will be creating a £10m entertainment experience on the remaining 100,000 sq ft in the upper two floors.

Alison Clegg, managing director, asset management, Grosvenor, commented: “The signing of M&S at Liverpool ONE is a great reflection of Grosvenor’s strategy of marrying the needs and wants of consumers to those of leading brands.  M&S is seeking modern space that allows it to deliver an enhanced experience for consumers”.

Metis Real Estate Advisors and CBRE acted for Liverpool ONE.  Savills represented M&S.
