Frasers Group drafts in Mike Ashley as consultant
Frasers Group has brought in founder Mike Ashley as an advisor, as the retail group continues a string of acquisitions.
Ashley, who stepped down as a director in September 2022, will be advising the company on supply chain and operations, The Sunday Times has reported.
His new role is unpaid, although some concerns may be raised that he will be acting as a “shadow director”, the newspaper said.
Frasers Group has also reportedly taken legal advice to ensure it adheres to good governance practice regarding the consultancy arrangement.
Ashley, who owns 69% of the business, joins following a number of acquisitions for Frasers, including large stakes in Currys, Boohoo, and AO World.
In March, it was also reported that the group acquired two shopping centres, The Overgate in Dundee and The Mall in Luton, with The Sunday Times also reporting that it is eyeing the purchases of a number of outlet centres.
